Sister Libraries Project

Five Bulgarian libraries participate in the great White House Millennium Council Project for Sister Libraries with American libraries from the Colorado state. The "Pencho Slaveykov" Public Library in Varna is one of them. A group of specialists in librarianship led by the chief of the project Mrs. Nancy Bolt visited Varna.

The town mayor Mr. Kiril Yordanov met with the American guests on the 27 July 2000. The main goals and trends of the project were presented and discussed over. Some materials and documents concerning the history and culture of Varna and Boulder, the Colorado state town which library is the sister one of the "Pencho Slaveykov" library, were exchanged. Mrs. Emilia Milkova, the director of the Bulgarian library, gave drawings of children from Varna as a gift to the Children's Department of the Boulder library, and a message of hope to the American colleagues the partnership would become stronger and the Internet would make the communication faster and easier.

Mrs. Nancy Bolt gave the director of the Varna library Mrs. Emilia Milkova a special plaque as a symbol of the partnership between the two libraries.

The libraries need to be supported by the municipal government is the state ment of the American guests shared by the Varna mayor Mr. Kiril Yordanov also.
